Saleh Katbeh
Bridging Traditions with Innovation
Saleh Katbeh is a Berlin-based producer, oud player, and music theorist whose career reflects a rich fusion of traditional and contemporary music. With a deep-rooted foundation in both Eastern and Western musical traditions, Saleh began his formal education in music theory at the esteemed High Institute of Music in Damascus. He continued his studies in music theory in Germany, where he earned a master’s degree in music theory with a specialization in Neue Musik from the prestigious Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar.
Throughout his career, Saleh has made significant contributions to various artistic domains, including film and theater. His diverse body of work showcases his ability to blend different musical styles and cultural influences. Notable among his achievements are The Factory, a theatrical score that premiered at Berlin's iconic Volksbühne in 2018, and Y-Sednaya, a composition that debuted in Naples in 2020. Additionally, his collaborative work on King kommt noch with German composer Ulrich Kreppein was celebrated with its premiere at the Köln Philharmonie in 2018.
Saleh’s compositions are characterized by their innovative integration of Eastern melodic structures with Western harmonic elements, resulting in a unique and evocative sound. His ability to traverse and merge these musical landscapes allows him to create deeply resonant and imaginative works that captivate audiences and elevate the artistic experience.
